Sarah Ray-Dobson (b.1999) was born and grew up in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. She studied painting at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh in 2020/21. She now lives in London and works at Trinity Art Studios as an artist assistant and painter.

Her practice interrogates vivid dreams, memories, interactions with people and nature through organic forms and rich colours. She thinks about what she sees as omens or messages, they stick in her mind and have to be expressed through movement and intuitive mark making. She is interested in how colours relate to each other, managing many colours and forms in one picture.Having quieter sections alongside busyness which contribute to a controlled chaos. Not being too precious with each painting, she allows accidents; spills and drips and interesting textures to come through. These ‘accidents’ provide details which lead through the surface of the painting into other images where the viewer can decide what they see. She is   interested in how much the painting reflects Herself but also the viewer. She hopes to create a tension of being pulled in and out of the painting to create a visceral experience.
